Cortina, the movie star
Cortina d'Ampezzo and Jacuzzi have both appeared in many famous movies. Over one hundred films were shot in this charming Italian village: love stories, Italian comedies, war movies and thrillers.
Erich von Stroheim chose Cortina as the location of his first movie, 1918’s ”The legend of the mountain", but he had to rebuild the location in an overseas studio. Leni Riefensthal also debuted as director at the Monte Cristallo with "Das Blaue Licht".
In 1962 "The Pink Panther" by Blake Edwards with Peter Sellers as the legendary inspector was also shot in Cortina d’Ampezzo.
Its slopes, in the 70’s, were also the scenery of the 007 saga in ”For Your Eyes Only" with Roger Moore as James Bond.
During the 80’s and 90’s Carlo and Enrico Vanzina shot there the Italian comedy 'Vacanze di Natale' and its sequels. In 1993 Sylvester Stallone came to Cortina to film "Cliffhanger", where he acted as a mountain guide.
